e-Courts

Indian electronic court services and case information system

Product Overview

e-Courts is a comprehensive initiative by the Government of India aimed at transforming the judicial system through the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Spearheaded by the e-Committee of the Supreme Court of India and funded by the Department of Justice, this project seeks to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of courts across the nation. The e-Courts project is implemented in phases, each focusing on different aspects of judicial digitization. Phase I, initiated in 2010, focused on computerizing district and subordinate courts, enabling the online availability of case records and cause lists. Phase II, launched in 2015, expanded the scope to include Wi-Fi connectivity in over 6,000 court complexes, the introduction of virtual courts for specific cases, and the development of the JustIS app for judges. Phase III, approved in 2023, aims to further digitize court records, promote paperless proceedings, and implement intelligent systems for data-driven decision-making. Key features of the e-Courts system include the Case Information System (CIS), which manages case filing, allocation, registration, and workflow; the e-Filing platform, allowing online submission of pleadings and documents; and the e-Pay system, facilitating online payment of court fees. Additionally, the e-Courts Services mobile app provides citizens, litigants, and legal professionals with real-time access to case statuses, cause lists, and court orders, enhancing transparency and accessibility. The e-Courts project represents a significant step towards modernizing India's judicial infrastructure, aiming to deliver justice in a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly manner.
