They specialize in sourcing and digitizing grey literature, primary sources, and materials from the Global South, making them available for academic, governmental, and corporate use. Coherent Digital serves a diverse clientele, including academic libraries, governments, think tanks, corporations, and various organizations involved in policy, science, culture, and history. Founded in 2019 and based in Alexandria, Virginia, Coherent Digital has grown to serve over 1,500 institutions worldwide, including universities, governments, think tanks, and corporations. Their platform spans over sixty databases, collectively delivering tens of millions of items drawn from more than 40,000 content-producing organizations, capturing a vast body of real-world knowledge often missing from traditional academic sources. In 2025, Coherent Digital launched Applied Science Commons, a groundbreaking initiative to make high-impact, real-world STEM content more accessible to academic and other research institutions through a faster, more comprehensive approach. This expansion reflects their commitment to enhancing the accessibility and impact of scientific knowledge.
