NLA Media Access is a publisher-owned rights licensing and publisher services business dedicated to supporting journalism. Operating on behalf of the UK's newspaper and magazine publishers, NLA licenses organizations to make paper and digital copies of newspaper, magazine, and news website content. The company manages the rights of thousands of print and web titles, encompassing over 7,000 national, regional, and foreign newspapers, more than 1,500 magazines, and over 4,000 newspaper and magazine websites. NLA's services include issuing licenses that grant organizations the right to copy and share content, both print and online, ensuring compliance with the Copyright Designs & Patents Act 1988. Additionally, NLA operates a database system, eClips, which provides media monitoring agencies with original quality press electronically in PDF format. The company also supports key initiatives on behalf of publishers, such as the Journalism Diversity Fund, which helps students from diverse backgrounds train as journalists, and the Newspapers for Schools 'News Library' database, allowing teachers and students to access newspaper articles as PDFs. NLA supplies a daily feed of text from over 100 titles to the Royal National Institute for the Blind, enabling accessible content for visually impaired individuals. NLA is owned equally by seven national newspaper publishing groups: Associated, Financial Times, Guardian, ESI Media, Reach, News UK, and Telegraph, representing around 300 publishers.
