Citizens' Gavel is a Nigerian civic tech organization founded in 2017 by Nelson Olanipekun, dedicated to enhancing the efficiency of justice delivery through technology. The organization provides pro bono legal services to individuals who cannot afford legal representation, aiming to bridge the gap between citizens and the judicial system. Gavel operates from offices in Lagos, Ibadan, and Abuja, collaborating with over 150 lawyers across 19 states in Nigeria. Their services include linking clients to pro bono lawyers, digitizing court activities for transparency, and addressing systemic issues within the judicial system. Notably, Gavel has been involved in initiatives such as the End SARS movement, advocating against police brutality, and promoting digital rights through partnerships with organizations like Paradigm Initiative.
